Yesterday, Danny figured out the problems with my K3. First, he found an intermittent wire connection to the speaker and repaired it during his site visit Thursday. Next, we had a weird issue whereas the speaker would only come on when a plug was inserted into the external speaker jack on the rear. When installing my Chinese 250 hz filters last month, the IO board was accidentally damaged. A replacement IO board was available and was installed in its place which had apparently caused the weird speaker issue. Today Danny discovered that there is a process to follow to tell the K3 that a new IO board was installed. Once I followed that procedure (it was simple), normal speaker operation was back.
Next issue was the Chinese 8 pole 250 hz CW filters. They appeared to be dead after installing them. However, Danny figured out that they required that the offset needed to be set to -0.55 for these filters (only the 250hz ones). Once this was done using the EZ K3 program, they worked FB. We will add the one I got for the site K3 to the main receiver of the SJDXA K3 next weekend. Since these filters only cost under $25 each, we might as well put another one in the second receiver as well now that we know that they work.
All is swell again here. A continuing learning experience.
THANK YOU DANNY!! You are becoming a K3 expert!!
