>
> Dear Friends of DX Publishing and Carl Smith, N4AA:
>
> It is with a very heavy heart that I come to you today to share what some of you have probably already heard. My dad, Carl, passed away this past Friday October 20th after a long, hard fought battle with COPD. I am including a note he had composed just a week prior on October 14th to send out to all of you, but his condition had worsened over the past week, and we were unable to get this out. Obviously, the circumstances have changed some of what he hoped to share with that was not included with his note.
>
> He has been in the process of attempting to transition DX Publishing and the publications of QRZ DX and DX Magazine over to a new editor over the last month. That will be my hope for what was so dear to him. I would appreciate your prayers, patience and support as I work to continue what dad has built and to continue the legacy he has left behind.
>
> Please take note of the change he addressed below regarding email communications. I will be keeping an eye on the new email he has provided. I cannot promise to handle things as he would have from just the pure lack of knowledge that he had over 60+ years in amateur radio, but will make every effort possible. My hope is that we will be able to continue the work of DX Publishing by the first of the year, which was his goal before he passed.
>
> Thank you for your dedication and support of DX Publishing, Ham Radio, and for my dad.
>
> Sincerely,
> Rodney Smith, KB4CMG

> I again come to you today with the latest news on my health issues which have kept me “off the air” recently.
>
> I am still hospitalized and it appears it will be for some time. Under these conditions it will simply be impossible for me to be able to publish QRZ DZ or even The DX Magazine for the foreseeable future. In an effort to minimize efforts, expenses and keep pressure off of those trying to help me, I am taking certain steps to do just that and the first step is this very EMAIL.
>
> You will note a different address. For decades I have used CHARTER for that service. I am changing to a GMAIL account. Any future email you see from me will be seen as coming from DXPUBS at GMAIL.COM and I will drop the CHARTER account completely. The DXPUB.NET web site will be discontinued as well.
>
> Obviously, after so many years of issuing QRZ DX each week and The DX MAGAZINE EVERY TWO MONTHS, it is a very HUMILITATING, HUMBLING and HURTING experience to reach this point. To add to that the 12 + years of doing the DX COLUMN for CQ Magazine and several years for the ARRL DXCC YEAR END Handbook and the final Honor of my introduction into the CQ Magazine DX Hall of Fame, can only be mind numbing to me.
>
> I thank each and every one of the thousands of you who have either read or subscribed to any of the items listed above. You have made my day, my life, a little better and I can only hope that I have done the same for you.
>
> As I have said time and time again “get on the air,” but as you do “HAVE FUN” enjoy whatever propagation we are given each day as we reach for those lofty goals.
>
> GL/73/88 to all.
