Participating On Thursday were N2HM KI4KWR W2OB N2HYG N2OO.
HM climbed the NE tower and replaced the pulley and rope used for our 80 meter inverted vee. But we could not re-raise the antenna due to a couple of tall pine trees being in the way. To be resolved next week. (We do have a temporary 80m antenna hung on the NW tower)
KWR went up on the roof and swapped the 2 meter beam out for a Triband groundplane (6,2,440). Tested and working.
W2OB and N2OO opened the feed boxes on some of the old commercial dipoles leftover from 1980s1990s Global Marine to check them out. We learned a lot about these antennas and we have made a plan to convert one for 17 meters. There are 4 sets of transmit antennas and 4 sets of separate receive antennas for each frequency. (I think approx freqs were 12mhz, 17mhz, 18.7Mhz, 20mhz). There are 2 doorknob capacitors inside each box. Aside from some old wasp nests, most seem to be in decent shape. Next Thursday we will attempt to test a couple to see if they still work, and try to adjust one to bring it into the 17 meter band. We see that one that is setup for 12 MHz might be tunable for 10 MHz (30 meters). It'll be fun trying anyway.
Next work party set for next Thursday at 9am. KWR has a friend who does tree work coming to take down trees from around the NE and SE towers in order to make them more accessible for future projects.
Critter report: Ticks and some spiders reported. We have spray for anyone wandering out into the brush. No skeeters or green heads (yet).
So we will keep working each Thursday until the critters reappear. All welcome.
