Just to let you know, I have the 100’ aluma tower up. It is in the 6’ base as Bob describes and is guyed at the top of each section except for the top section. I really don’t like crank up towers even though I have two, with the second being a us tower tx-455.

That being said, the us tower needs the electric winch because the boat winch will kill you with any kind of loading.

The aluma tower top section in the 100’ foot tower is 4 inches wide so what I do is fly it out to about 90 feet and have nylon rope guying at the 80 foot level. You have to load it lightly so I just have a short boom 10 meter quad up top. Watch the width of the top section so you don’t overload it. Put a power winch on it, hand winch doesn’t cut it.

In that windstorm which hit us, I recorded a high gust of 37 mph and the tower was up. I normally wouldn’t have it up in this wind but that’s a long story. I brought out the transit and the top of the tower was moving up to 3 feet in all directions which proves the aluminum was forgiving because rigid is not good.

Good luck and when you aren’t using it, retract it.

Let me know if you need a hand with it
