The issue with 10 meters is due to the fact that the TA33 was set up for CW thus all bands (20-15-10) will favor the very low end of the band. To fix this we would need to change the resonance to mid band or phone band. (I would recommend mid band). This would change resonance on all 3 bands. To do this would require dropping the beam and change element lengths on all 3 elements per the antenna manual. Should be prepared to make any repairs if needed.
Another option might be to invest in a KAT500 to tune out the SWR automatically. Cost is around $700 unless we can locate one used somewhere.
Also, I had suggested erecting a separate inverted v antenna for 80 meter CW. The current one is setup for phone (75 meters). An easy location for this would be hanging the center from the current TA33 tower and running legs out in different directions than the current 75 antenna and different than the folded dipole (WSC).
6 meter beam: We own one still new in box. Just need to plan how/where to install it. It is a long boom M2 yagi.
I do not recommend any add on kits to the TA33. They all could create problems on the standard 20-15-10 bands.
30 meters can be easy with a ground mounted, or raised vertical with radials. Should be an easy build using available aluminum on site. Could phase as well.

Subject: SJDXA Work Party
Alrighty then…. Here is what SJDXA has pending at this time at the Site. I will be at the Site Friday morning 9am and will stop outside work when I loose daylight. Depending on band conditions I may stay the night and work on my DXCC and start backup Saturday and finish outside work for SJDXA and the 160m Team. If anyone can come out please let me know so I can plan on what projects can be done with more than one person.
Towers
NW Tower TA-33
All is well except 10m on the TA-33 which would require a climb by “HM” and would be a true pain in the rump to lower and figure out most likely.
Clean up tree branches around tower
NE Tower 80m Inverted V
80m Inverted V needs replacement and needed parts have been acquired and ready for build.
Clean up tree branches around tower and associated inverted V to keep clear of damage
SE Tower 40m Inverted V
40m Inverted V is perfect across the band so no need to touch it but ensure support lines are good.
Clean up tree branches around tower and associated inverted V to keep clear of damage
SW Tower 160 Inverted L
Clean up tree branches around tower and all other gear around the tower.
160m Inverted L is a dual W2GD/SJDXA asset that is only used during the Winter contests but possibly looking into making this a permanent 160m faction if possible. May just require a coax run into the “House”.
Future Expansion to the SJDXA Antenna Suite
- 6/2m Beams. Could be added to TA-33 Tower or another one.
- Replace HM's 2m beam on roof with Tri-Band Vertical (N2OO has antenna). Hold 2m beam for #1 above.
I am willing/ready to install this if given permission and have people there to “spot” me.
- Install 17 meter monoband on rear tower with a rotor. (N2OO Donating)
- Build/Buy 12m beam. Add above the 17 meter beam.
If we “bought” the SR WARC Kit for the TA-33 ($299) this would complete both the 12/17m but requires the TA-33 being lowered.
- Design and build phased 1/4 wave verticals for 40 meters and use on marsh. Lots of spare aluminum at the site.
40m Inverted V works great now so would be just another item in the arsenal.
- 30m Antenna
Optional Add-on from Mosley for the TA-33 ($292) or make a 30m Inverted V and place near one of the towers.
- Coax Switches
KI4KWR already working on this
- Test and use any of the existing commercial unused vertical dipoles that are out past the big tower. Use with a tuner on any near resonant frequencies. They are on unsafe telephone poles so we cannot climb or adjust them.
Coax feeds are in crawl which I will be figuring out this weekend if weather is good.
The Shack aspect is ready to go 24/7 with the capabilities we have now. Lastly is the equipment “WISH LIST” which is small and possible someday.
SJDXA Equipment WISH LIST
Elecraft KAT-500 (500w Automatic Tuner Unit that is a partner to the KPA-500 which we have already) $725 roughly
