We don’t plan to use diversity on SSB, but will have a coax switch to select either the beverages or the Hi Z if it works.
Somehow the tubs that Danny made up got turned over leaving the open holes facing up. Water came into the top and collected in the bottom of the second tub immersing the larger box (not the preamp) in about an inch of water. We turned it over and hoping that the water drains out and has dried and it will work again. The pre-amp didn’t get very wet at all so I am assuming that it might be OK.
We can check it out tomorrow or Friday.
Regards,
Bob Schenck, N2OO

Sorry to hear that the HiZ preamp got wet again. (How high DOES the water get out there?) But, on Saturday night of CQ 160 CW, DaNO & I trouped out there and bypassed the preamp and we operated without any preamp (except maybe that in the K3, but I don't remember). The antenna was still good for diversity. Although I don't normally see the dramatic effect of diversity on SSB, I think HiZ without the preamp will still be useful for K3 diversity operation even without the preamp out in the field (or marsh).
Talk with your this weekend,
Gerry, W1GD

Meeting tonight reminder.
Needed for setup:
If you have any of these things, please bring tonight if you can.
We need a few BNC/BNC jumpers around 1-3 feet. This is in case we can arrange to resurrect the HiZ RX array (got wet again. Discovered last weekend) and use a coax switch to select which to listen to. I have a couple here. But could use a few more.
Alternative would also work with a pl259 on one end and a BNC male on the other end. Please only RF coax not audio cables.
If anyone happens to have a BNC coax switch? That would be nice. Trying to avoid adapters if possible.
Headphones:
We have 2 Heil boom mic headsets.
We should have a few extra Heil boom mic Headsets.
Not ICOM types.
We have 2 adapters but spares are always a good idea. K3s use Red Kenwood 8 pin type.
Some good news is that Marty W2CG will be coming Friday to help set up computers and to operate with us.
Pete KU2C is bringing his K3 so we will have 3 K3's.
The VP8 team is covering our food/drinks for the weekend. As a thank you!
