SJDXA members,
Today, DaNo, Pete and Steve (KI4KWR) met me at the site.
Danny and Pete put the HiZ back together and tested it, all OK.
We installed TWO K3 power cables in the run and slave positions. Need one
more for the mult, but Pete's K3 will have his own installed for SSB
Contest.
Pete also installed a special logging setup so that we will be able to
access the "voice messages" in the K3's by hitting specific F keys. Such as
"CQ Contest" "November two charlie whiskey" etc..
Steve went out to the tower, removed the NE coax from the hardline and water
came out. The N was so corroded that the pin broke off.
Steve put it back together after the water drained out and taped it. We
confirmed the heliax model to be Andrews on both feedlines.
I have asked Rick WC2K to change BOTH heliax N connectors with new heliax
female UHF style connectors for us.
Next, I spoke with Bob N2HM and he has a good idea. To install a "box" (or
boxes) similar to the boxes we use for the underground cable runs (beverages
mainly) out at the tower, run the hardline and the antenna coax (with
appropriate drip loop) up into them from the bottom and seal the box but I
think we can leave the bottom open and accessible. Any moisture that does
get in should drain right out. And, of course it needs to be well above any
high tides. His suggestion seems the most logical and we must do it when we
take down everything so that the new hardline connectors are protected for
the summer.
See ya' in the Pileups!
73!
