SJDXA MEMBERS,

At tonight's meeting, we tested the two 160 meter slopers. We found the
Northeast sloper resonant at 1.730 mhz. This would require dropping the NE
sloper AND delta loop (as they are tied together on the same rope) and
shortening the top half of the antenna, then re-erecting it. This also
involves tower climbing (about the 100 foot level at the least), careful
manipulating around tower guy wires and requires a team of at the very least
4 able bodied people out at the tower. We then tested the SW sloper and
found it to be solid high SWR with no resonant point noted. This could be
any number of problems from a bad connector, shorted coax, or dropped
antenna. We even tried OMNI and found one sharp dip at 2.43 mhz.

As such, considering the weather issues, it was decided to cancel this
year's contest activity from the site. Just way too much work and not enough
manpower on short notice. The recent cold WX really screwed up any plans to
make everything workable. I just spoke with Bob W2ARP down in Ft Meyers, FL
and he was really heartbroken as he was looking forward to the contest with
us! I told him that we would pass the hat to cover any cancelation fees for
his flight. So, Bob can stay in Florida and keep warm.

We decided to "consider" an activity in the upcoming CQWW WPX Phone Contest
March 28-29 (actually starts Friday evening March 27) from the site as N2CW.
If anyone would like to do that, let me know ASAP and we can try to put
something together.

I would like to welcome a new member to the club. Richard Zaengle, KA2NBB of
Little Egg Harbor. Richard is looking forward to working on QSL cards!

I will give a full K1N QSL status later. But we will need to plan a MAIL
OPENING party in the next couple of weeks. I have about 8 trays of mail so
far, and it keeps coming in at a rate of about one tray a day.

See ya' in the Pileups!

73!
