There are now fewer than 4 months to go to WRTC 2014 and site planning for the station sites is in full swing, Tom, K1KI, has addressed some of the logistics problems we encountered during last year's tests by creating Site Area Managers to be responsible for overseeing the delivery of material and the coordination of a small number of sites. I've volunteered to be a Site Area Manager for 4 of the 12 sites in the Devens Area. Les, N1SV, is the Beam Team Captain for those 4 sites. We're anxious for the snow to stop falling and melt enough so we can get out to the sites to check on what preparation (bush clearing, etc.) we need to do.
I haven't seen any of the other sites, but I do like the sites at the Devens Area (and not just because it's less than 30 minutes to my house!). It's easy to access the sites from major highways and there are hotels and restaurants within the Devens Area as well as just outside the area. I operated one of the test stations at Devens last year.
K1KI indicated that he's still looking for volunteers for the actual site teams. The site teams are responsible for setting up the tent, operating tables, generator, testing the installation and staffing the sites during the contest. While the committee is looking at local hams and clubs to staff the site teams individuals and teams are coming from all over to be part of this event. (One of my teams is coming from FL and I know others coming from PA.)
If you are interested, you can contact me for more information or you can volunteer directly at the WRTC 2014 web site (http://www.wrtc2014.org/volunteer/).
73 from the North Country,
Gerry, W1GD
