Here is an edited (by me) version of an email I got from Bob with some interesting info you might enjoy. Please DO NOT resend this, it is meant only for SJDXA members.
We have had MANY issues here that we have had to 'work around'. One is that
overnight we CANNOT leave our station sites due to treacherous trails.
Antonelli is a 2 mile PLUS hike along a tractor trail up to the site at over
600 foot elevation along a crater. Mataf is relatively close to our rooms,
but the trail goes through a large population of sea lions who would attack
if we got close to them at night. So we are doing 12 on 12 off PLUS some
double tours to man the stations. All 8 stations are up and running now
although a couple of antennas remain to be completed. 160 should be ready
TMRW. Good luck on 80 but the thinking tonight is that they will be on 75
SSB tonight until the Antonelli site gets theirs set up.
If anyone has an issue with making an ATNO QSO by next week, let me know and
maybe we can sked or do something special. Also If you hear any good times
for us to ask EU to standby for an opening to NE USA on the higher bands let
me know. I was on 15 SSB today working EU and late in the afternoon here I
tried to standby for NA. Only heard a VA3. That was probably around 12Z. I
am supposed to be on the day shift again tmrw.
Any ideas are WELCOME.
