Subject: [SJDXA] Amplifier for N2CW

SJDXA members,I have some exciting news for SJDXA members! As you all should know, for quite a while now, we have been working slowly towards upgrading the HF amplifier at the N2CW.While I was on the FT5ZM DXpedition, we used two models of amplifiers. Elecraft KPA500’s and OM Power OM2000HF’s.After the DXpedition, the team was offered these amplifiers at a reduced price. Before we knew what the deal would be, John WU2E (on our QSL team) asked if he could purchase one of the OM2000HF’s. I was able to put John on top of the list “if” they became available. We did not know what the price would be, or even if they would be offered to us at all.Recently, I discovered that the price was more than fair. Let’s say that it was well below the list price of $6,995.When the remaining 3 OM’s were offered, I grabbed one immediately for N2CW, and one for myself as well. Someone else got #4 and they were gone. The amps are still en route from New Zealand. These are full power manual tune amplifiers. They worked extremely well, flawlessly, from FT5ZM. Also worth noting, they were packaged securely inside their own wooden crates. After I reserved one for N2CW, I discussed the exact situation with our officers, and they all concurred that this was a no brainer.Coincidentally, we will be getting some funds from the sale of equipment from a local ham who was a member of the Old Barney ARC who gave me his equipment a couple of years ago. His desire was that it be used for the benefit of Old Barney ARC and SJDXA. He also said he did not mind if it was sold in order to upgrade the station equipment at N2CW. He became a silent key a few months ago. So, I have decided to go ahead and sell his equipment and split the proceeds evenly between OBARC and SJDXA. Bob K2RET now has all of the stuff, and he will first offer it to members of both clubs for fair market value, first come first served. Then, whatever is left will go on EBay, Eham, etc. The overall total should come to somewhere around $2k.Worth also noting that we already have $600 “set aside” in our treasury for the amplifier upgrade kitty and another $288 in the coax fund. Also note, that we previously decided to sell our Drake L7 when the time was right to upgrade our amplifier. Now would be the time. I asked Bob K2RET to check on a fair market value for the Drake L7 amplifier and offer it also to SJDXA members first, then OBARC and other local clubs. Although it would be nice to have a backup amp at the site, I don’t see financially being able to do it. We will keep it for the upcoming W1AW/2 operations.I have gone over all of this with our treasurer, and once these items are all sold, we SHOULD have more than enough for the OM2000HF amplifier purchase.http://www.om-power.com/om2000hf See ya’ in the Pileups!Bob Schenck, N2OOQSL Manager and Proud TEAM member FT5ZM – Amsterdam 2014!Please consider a contribution!http://www.amsterdamdx.org/donation/ www.amsterdamdx.orgPresident South Jersey DX Assnwww.sjdxa.org
