SJDXA MEMBERS;
At our last meeting, we discussed ideas for some projects at the site this
Spring.
I am going to list them here and add a few of my own, but I am ASKING
everyone to think about what they might have out in their garage or shed
that we could use at the site for some of these ideas? Or, do you have any
other ideas?
Outside:
1. Running MORE coax in the two present PVC runs and testing/removing
any questionable feedlines currently installed.
2. Installing weatherproof "boxes" mounted on 4x4 posts at the
terminus of each PVC coax run, and running all coax up into them.
3. Sealing both ends of the NE PVC tube once we are done with
something that "CAN" be removed if needed. This is to minimize the threat of
a high tide influx of water, and entry point for critters (rodents, snakes,
etc) into the crawlspace.
4. Sealing the short PVC tube at the SE corner of the building that
feeds into the small "cable vault" on the outer back wall.
5. Consider a way to repair or install screening on the current
crawlspace vents (also to help limit entry points for critters).
6. Consider a "GOOD" crawlspace entry door option that will help deter
intrusion by critters. Repair cinder blocks at crawlspace entry.
7. Inspect crawlspace and foundation for any other possible entry
points.
8. Consider, and plan a new PVC tube on the SW corner of the building
out to the area somewhere to the left of the WYRS shed. Same end, with 4x4
post and weather proof box.
9. Bring down, and repair the TA33, re-erect.
10. Design and build a Garden Beam. Fun project. (see below)
Inside:
1. Install LED strip lighting under shelf (above radio)
2. Install a light of some sort over the shack table under the
cabinets.
3. Upgrade shack PC to Windows 7.
4. Mark/identify all new coax feedlines.
5.
Another thing we discussed was using "available aluminum" and short tower
sections (from OBARC and other stuff) from the site with Bob's (N2HM)
permission (he has given it) in order to design and build a Garden Beam and
put it out in the marsh somewhere. We have most of the material necessary I
would think. This would be a FUN project to see if we can make one work out
on the marsh.. If you don't know what a Garden Beam is, then read April QST
page 34. It is a rotatable vertical beam with counterpoises that you mount
at about 10 feet. I have some ideas, but will need to take inventory at the
site before we can decide which band to make one for. My thought is to think
big, since we have plenty of area to work with. So, I am thinking 40 meters.
Or, at least 30 meters.
SO, please report back to me ASAP if you have anything you can donate to the
cause for April 20th.
Coax, Amphenol PL259s, Clamps, etc. Think of April 20th like you would for
Field Day. Bring ANYthing you think we might be able to use. Tools too!
Boots, gloves, tape, tywraps, solder gun, solder, you know the drill..
Our invite will also go out to OBARC members, and the CW team. Might have to
run a shuttle bus in and out the driveway? J
AS USUAL, please ROLL CALL! WHO WILL BE COMING?
See ya' in the Pileups!
73!
