To the SJDXA,
At the start of the Phone CQ contest this past weekend, we had a problem
with a K3 owned by Jeff, KB2M. Jeff had me call Dale at Elecraft today
because I have the test equipment to trouble shoot the rig.
Dale had me look at a resistor on the bottom of the main board, the resistor
had let the smoke out. The cause was a shorted IF amp transistor, this
happens when the RX gets high RF on the RX antenna. There is a mod to
monitor the amps current and turn on the Attenuator during high levels of
RF, KB2M rig did not have the mod.
Dale of Elecraft is sending the parts and the mod. If there is a charge for
the parts, I will pay it on my Credit Card and then ask the club to
rein-burst me.
I will do the mod and change the bad parts, of course at no charge to the
club. But Jeff owns me:).
73,
de Bob, W2ARP
PS we own Dale at Elecraft a big Thank You for the great service that he is
giving us.
