Subject: [OBARC-L] Bargain Tower

I recently purchased an E-Z Way tower. At $100 it was a bargain
and was it great condition. It's located in Ewing (Next to Trenton)
and has to be taken down. It is essentially rust free and is a
crank-up, tilt over. Although there are no markings on the tower
that I could find I believe it is a E-Z Way RBX-50 with two sections
and a fully extended height of about 50 ft. There are two winches,
one to crank up and one to tilt over. When it was new this tower
sold for over $2,000 a long time ago.

Unfortunately, the tower will not work at my QTH. I can get my
money back but I would like to see it go to an OBARC member
or friend. This is a tower the will take a hurricane without guy
wires.

The tower is mounted on a "wonder pole" and pivots about 10
feet off the ground like a sea saw. That is one of my problems,
I assumed it was hinged at the base. You need around 10 feet
behind the tower and that place the top of the tower over my
lagoon making antenna work difficult. In addition, the large post
must go into the ground about 6 feet. I hit water about 4 feet
down. No concrete is required for this tower which would justify
a claim that it is only a temporary installation.

Here is a photo essay of K1YPP taking down one of these
all by himself. I wouldn't recommend it.

Here is a copy of the original E-Z Way sales brochure.

The tower must be taken down and moved. There are no
antennas or rotator on the tower.

There you go, for $100 and a lot of muscle power you can have
a world-class tower. I'll even be part of your work crew. I think it
could be moved with a large boat trailer.
