I have a 4 year degree in CS, (not CIS) a minor in math, and was given a GA for my masters at in just over 3 years at age? 50. A good job offer ended my college career. With the masters work included I had over 4 years in college (with little sleep), then worked in computers until I retired as a computer systems project manager.? I never really had a vacation as they had me paged while on the flight line at the big fly-in at Oshkosh, WI and called while we were at my wife's folks in FL.? When I retired they owed me 90 days of vacation.? I should have stayed a few more years. I really don't have a lot of drive left to play with the digital modes. Although I prefer chasing DX on SSB and CW. Six is my favorite band.? 40 is the only other band where I've operated world wide openings for over 24 consecutive hours.? At noon here, I worked AU and NZ, turned the beams and worked Europe and Africa.? On both bands I've been in QSOs where all continents were present or we were just short one.? Of course those on six were a couple of highs back and 40 was during the last low. Now I need to get a crew together and put the C19XR tri-band beam and the 7L C3i Yagi on the crank up tower. 73, Roger (K8RI) On 10/21/2017 Saturday 10:14 PM, Roger on six wrote: > The list is about as active as the 6-meter band > > 73, Roger ((K8RI) > > On 9/1/2017 Friday 3:38 PM, Mr. Richard Joey Fiero II ARS. I too was called when on the flight line at both Oshkosh and Sun-N-Fun in Lakeland, Fl. While vacationing in the V.I During Thanksgiving and Christmas and birthdays with my kids. I've never has a 9-5 M-F job. Broadcast Television was my life for over 45 years. One of my bucket-list items was to be on six meters during a sunspot cycle like the maximum in 1957. My mentor worked the world on six AM with a Layafette 10 watt transceiver that probably couldn't hear signals below 2 mv. Unfortunately .... https://www.space.com/21937-sun-solar-weather-peak-is-weak.html The next cycle doesn't look great either. So its ( seemingly ) digital modes or nothing and I don't touch-type. ######## > ? When I retired they owed me 90 days of vacation.? I should have > stayed a few more years. ###### I tried to retire four times... each retirement lasted six months before my successors left and I agreed to help again until another supervisor was found. ###### > I really don't have a lot of drive left to play with the digital modes. > Although I prefer chasing DX on SSB and CW. Six is my favorite band. ###### Me too !! ( see above ) I've noticed that things I thought important years ago are dropping down my list at a rapid rate. I used to climb my 140 foot tower on a weekly basis if I needed to improve the antennas and rotators... now, the knees and hips say "No". Now, finding someone that I would trust... who wouldn't fall and their widow sue me for everything I own.... It probably isn't going to be worth the cost of a commercial insured crew especially in light of the predicted lows of the next sunspot cycle. ####### Don W4DNR > 73, Roger (K8RI) > > On 10/21/2017 Saturday 10:14 PM, Roger on six wrote: >> The list is about as active as the 6-meter band >> >> 73, Roger ((K8RI) >> >> On 9/1/2017 Friday 3:38 PM, Mr. Richard Joey Fiero II ARS.
