I would anticipate significant stage-by-stage mods would be
necessary.

The goal would be dedicated 6m SSB/DSB transceivers in the
original cases - keeping them looking as original as possible.

Oh, did I mention using Space-Charge (12v plates) and/or low
voltage sub-miniature/pencil tubes for direct battery ops?

It seems if I want synchronous DSB receive it will have to
be a hybrid and no-one seems able to build a tube-type
sync-rx with a non-complex design & a small footprint.

Low-power 6m AM rigs are nearly useless ...

IMHO, YMMV ...  :-)
