Back when I first got on six and two ssb, there were two clubs called SWOT
( side winders on two ) and SMIRK ( six meter international radio Klub ).

Just curious, but has the internet and other propagation prediction sites
or automated PSK reporting of band openings replaced them ?

Were the dues or having to contact several club members to be a part
of these clubs just too much, or was there some falling out over
policy ?

I see where someone can set up a low power beacon mode on PSK-31
( maybe other modes ) and watch a website to see if any listening stations
picks up their signals.

I have played around with HRD and using the internal soundcard and
speakers, and you can monitor 2 .5 kHz of spectrum using the super
browser and if a PSK-31 signal is decoded, the call and frequency is
announced through the speakers.

You can walk away from your ham desk, and still be alerted if there is
a signal on the band. ( depending on how loud you turn up the
speakers ).

For this to be successful on six especially when the band is dead, it
would probably require monitoring and transmitting on a single
frequency.

Maybe transmit a couple of PSK transmissions followed by CQ on SSB ...

I think way too many of us monitor more than we transmit and a lot of possible
contacts are lost.

If everyone transmitted PSK at +1500 then if a band opening happened,
you could notch out the narrow PSK with your notch filter and make SSB
contacts.

I think the two modes could co-exist on the same frequency.

Just scratching my head .......
