SR 46 is a good AM rig....one of the rare ones that covers 50-54MHz and has
a VFO that tracks the rcvr as well! (IIRC there was an external VFO for
it..and a matching 2m version)...If the VFO is stable enough, you can work
SSB with it  by using the spot switch as a BFO and zero the xmtr so the
carrier wont be heard (except for the adjacent freq guys; did that with a
Gonset G-50 decades ago..one guy finally called me and told me about the
carrier "leak"..when I told him what I was running, he just said "OOOHHHHH
that explains it"

Parking it on 50.4 would probably be better these days..and add a squelch
mod to it would make it a great 6 AM rig!

Like the SR- and the Knight TR-106/-102 series (another 6 and 2m pair).....
