Crude is forecast to make between $100 to $150 per bbl this summer.
You do realize that even at $4.00 a gallon there would be only a couple
of countries where it would be cheaper.
Most of Europe and Asia pay at least 50% more than we do currently and a
good portion of that is because the us currency is the world standard.
If we loose that then you will be looking at $6 or $7 a gallon. At $3 or
$4 we have some of the cheapest gas in the world.

Do you use your own reserves, or the reserves from the countries who
don't like you first?
The main problem with our own reserves (oil fields) is we've done so
little exploration in the last 3 decades and it takes a good 10 years to
develop new fields.

The major reason for this is not the eco-freaks but the cost of
exploration Vs the value of what we can get out of the ground. Our
major sources of crude have intentionally kept the price low, which made
it too expensive for us to do domestic exploration. That makes us ever
more dependent on them. Off shore and remote sources are so expensive
that it costs nearly $80 per bbl just to get the stuff out of the ground
and then the deposits have to be extremely rich like under the gulf of
Mexico. Most of our domestic fields are "OLD" and long past their
peak. OTOH we are sitting on top of some of the largest natural gas
deposits in the world. One under the Great Lakes states, one under the
mid West, and one under an area roughly centered on Pa. They are deep,
but rich. I think I remember reading that if we converted to run cars
on natural gas there is enough to power the whole fleet for over 30 years.
