Please note that MOST 6m FM only rigs DO NOT have a NOISE BLANKER in
it...for some reason, the JapTracs as they were called 20 yrs ago, did not
feel it needed it as the FM limiters are supposed to get rid of AM
noise...AHHH wrong grasshopper.....Ask Motorola or GE where the NB was
designed...Midland even had NBs in them but the amateur versions??
NOPE.....Best NB in commercial LMR is the Midlands (all models), GE Delta
and Ranger and MAYBE the smaller underdash model after the Delta...but the
only one I tried SUCKED!!!FT-680/780/290 and FT627RA or similar works...the
TS 680 has a NB which DOES work in all modes....HMMMM so does the
FT690RII....so what about  a 6FM only with NB???
I even have a Comtronix FM-200 6FM only radio...it works GREAT provided
there is no local noise source (and on 6, the noise source could be MILES
away!!)
There is a 10.7MHz IF stage in the GE Delta that COULD be retrofitted to the
FM-200 or other rigs....but WHY WONT the JAP RIGS COME WITH IT ALREADY???
The FT8900 would REALLY be a great multiband rig if they had a NB for 6 and
10.....I HAVE seen cases where noise still tore up 2m rcvrs!!! So a good
rcvr with a NOISE BLANKER that work would be FANTASTIC!!!..
