[SixClub] Question on Amplifier

My six meter 1500W amp was less than $1 per watt and can be driven with 20W. Of course, you need to know how to build stuff and use some surplus parts. It runs ~800W PEP with 10W drive.

Good question Frosty.

For me the ideal amp would be a 6/2 to mate up with the TenTec 526 or Yaesu FT 736. It would be 10 or 20 watt drive with 2 stage power out 100/300 watts. built-in PS, one input/output for each band, solid state and meters basic or optional. $1.00 per watt.

As others have stated, overkill on power is easy to do. Most of us are limited by the antennas we can put up and what we can hear so don't need near legal limit.
