Is there anything such as too much power (within legal limits)?

Of course if we are talking cost, mobile/portable, or size then
500-600w Output is adequate most of the time.

25 allows the most common 100w rig to run cool and easy but most
of us have 100w of drive available.

No, outboard is preferred to distribute weight and to keep heat
away from the RF chassis.  (Solid state amps may be 12v or 50v,
12v is almost always separate, 50v tends to be separate as well.)
