Depending on the PS in the donor amp you might also consider the GS31B
which is like the GI-7B on Steroids with 1KW of plate dissipation. IIRC
There is another one that looks much the same with 1500 watts
dissipation. It might even use the same socket. Then there is the GS35
as well.
There is a ham in Canada who is making sockets for many of these tubes
including the 3CX3000A7 (way too big for this project). Those sockets
look better than the ones from the manufacturers.
