The Battleship New Jersey Amateur Radio Station is
sponsoring "Museum Ship Weekend" that will feature
over 50 ships ranging from light-house tenders to
destroyers, destroyer escorts, battleships, and
retired military supply ships world wide & included
several retired cruise ships that saw service in
WW-II.
This is expected to cover all HF bands as well as a
few VHF frequencies "world-wide", this will include
CW, SSB, & VHF frequencies that *will include 6 meters
SSB.*
Details for those who wish to participate are at the
"Battleship New Jersey ARS" (Google or Yahoo search
for the exact URL, include quotes.). This event is
sanctioned by the ARRL.
I will be participating in Galveston, Tx. with BVARC
(Brazos Valley Amateur Radio Club) with other hams
from Tidelands Amateur Radio Club & several
other Houston area clubs. The call sign KK5W will
yield double credits in the friendly competition (For
Submarine Cavalla and the Destroyer Escort Stewart),
there will be a colorful certificate issued to hams
that reach 15 of the "participating" ships.
Last year BVARC contacts included the "Queen Mary"
in San Diego as the 15th participating credit on
Saturday afternoon and another 6 on Sunday under
horrible band conditions, a colorful QSL card
received by the KK5W group include 2 posterboards
of QSL cards.
