Interesting  Gotta look into that possibility for mounting  some of my

If it's  old growth (IE the tree is not going to much if any taller, or 
larger in  diameter), use lag bolts. You might have to make some 
adjustable spacers  to allow for irregularities in the circumference and 
growth in girth. Any  increase in diameter will grow right round the feet 
and bolts. Make the  feet large enough to
support the weight without digging into the  bark.  Trees will tolerate
lag bolts (within reason) but a wire  wrapped around one will kill it.

I would think even with large trees  there'd be a lot of movement.
