Are they plate modulated AM?

I wonder how invasive a mod to DSB might be, something
like the mod done to the BC-696, or the original design
of the WRL SB-175?

DSB would work with AM and SSB stations making contacts
more likely.

I have been exploring such a mod to my AF-68.
