The High band and UHF front end castings do suffer from the tin whiskers problems. A good cleaning with De-oxit helps them immensely. The low band front ends are really no issue being coils with tunable ferrite cores . There are also 2 air variables . The casting was just a convenient housing they used.
Definately a wonderful receiver with excellent sensitivity
Our club had a remote on 52.525 fed with a 5/8 over 5/8 centre fed vertical wire dipole 1/4 wave form the tower. At sunset we had sun noise along with a full quieting signal The rcvrs are HOT !
