Young people, at least around here, are moving away from facebook. Many
of the "in crowd" think people are nuts for using it. It's a social
networking system with far too much information being made public by the
unknowing.

There are already ham groups on Yahoo Groups, but they, like those are
like the ones on mailman.qth

Twitter OTOH is an instant messaging system well suited for activities
like SkyWarn. It's little different than most other IM systems except
for profile. It's a handy way of getting messages out.

Twitter might be more appropriate. Depends on what you want to do. If
you want to advertise ham radio, best be able to present it in a manner
that will not turn the viewer off, rather than on. It could easily come
across as a bunch of overweight, old guys and their toys. You have to
make it appealing to the target audience and that is not easy with a
technical hobby. The average person (young or old) doesn't want to
learn new thing and particularly anything that takes study.

When we wish to get the word out when the band is open and an instant
messaging system could be ideal for that.
