I was taught that after a significant lightning
strike one should rotate-out cables that "appear"
OK to a non-critical application and to replace
the critical cables with new ones.

One of the reasons I recall is that some of the
damage may not be visible but are pinhole leaks,
weakened dielectric, etc.

In Florida copper pipe in walls over years often
suffered pinhole leaks in the solder joints after
years of lightning-surges through them to ground.
The general wisdom became to go with PVC because
it would not serve as an attractive ground-path.
