Agreed.
Only difference is I also operate a lot of HF, both CW and SSB.

Yup! and my degree is CS. I've been a sys admin, developmental analyst
(fancy name for programmer, and retired as a project manager). Far too
many of today's sites try to incorporate motion and pretty, but useless
features.

That's nothing new on 160. In the "old day" when it was a very small
band, that went on all the time.

I collect grid squares on six and chase DC on HF, but also get into some
long winded "rag chews"

Although I know it's there I haven't heard any of it in a very long
time. I know where they hang out and avoid those frequencies.
When six is really open, you'll hear the bickering over the frequency on
there as well. Like 20, it's possible for some one to not hear either
end of a conversation and end up blasting a third party.

Just listen on 3.930-3.935, or 3.895 that was where they used to hang out.

Oh, working DX on 40 and 75 with all the QRN AND QRM can be challenging
as well. A couple days ago, 40 was as quiet as 6 with lots of DX. Last
winter is was open world wide nearly every night. It's been a great
band and I view it as one of our newest since they got rid of the
foreign broadcast.

OTOH working aurora with stations that only make a change in the
background noise is a real challenge.
