Years ago, SMIRK tried to get 50.2 adopted as the SSB calling freq on 6 to match the 2m freq of 144.2 but it never took hold (sometimes the MUF is below 50.2 and .110/125 is open but .2 can be dead quiet). As for digital,
most has settled around 50.3 (.29 and .31 the common freqs for PSK and other digital modes)....SHAME the FCC doesnt allow digital in the 50-50.5 range..according the FCC itself, it doesnt segment bands via mode anymore (in their own response to the petition that allowed FM to move its lower limit all the way down to 50.1; nly folks who wanted it were S CA/West Coast who wanted...or were already..to run FM on 50.3 since it would be open more than 52.525)...HMM then why the CW only segments on 6 and 2?? Yeah I know EME, etc....still they COULD allow digital in the bottom 500kHz or the upper....(someone in DC is smoking the funny stuff still)
The 6m band may be the Magic Band but it is also the Jacked UP band.....no common repeater offset nationally, too many disagreements on operating freqs for various modes, etc...
its now the 21st century...this should have been fixed decades ago...SHOULD have...2m is more aligned nationally than 6 is...and so is 10 and 220! Why the Magic Band is soooo screwed up? We NEED to fix that
