The guys at VQ5M did an outstanding job controlling the calls but still idiots comming up and saying "anyone here?" Key word HEAR!! There's NO WAY they couldn't hear that pile up!
Actually there is. On the upper HF bands and particularly on lower VHF
as in six meters it's very easy for some one, say in Michigan not to
hear either end of a pileup like this. However it's also possible for
some one to hear both ends of the pileup and the station in Michigan.
So don't be too quick to condemn. It's also true that many just turn
the radio on, don't hear anything and immediately put out a call.
Yesterday there were several times I could hear three stations working
on the same frequency. They may have had some interference, but they
were operating successfully.
