Hi Steve:

I am an avid QRP CW 6 meter DXer. 10 watts to a folded dipole in my attic.

50.125 is where most people sit for USB.
50.098 and abouts (50.090 to 50.105 or so) is where to look for CW.
Several groups of friends can be found on 50.135 in New England especially during weekday nights around 8pm.
You'll generally find USB activity between 50.120 to about 50.200 especially during contests.
Otherwise, 50.125 or slightly above is where to scan.
50.098 is the CW watering hole.

Very best advice: Call everyone you hear. Learn how to 'back door' others QSOs.
Wait until a pair of hams signs off and then call one of them.
Call CQ even when the band is 'dead.' I have worked some of my best stations this way.
Don't be afraid to use CW to catch the attention of a USB station.
The hams on 6 meters love DX and will often be very patient to pull your call out of the mud.
If you want them bad enough to use CW, they want you!

Finally, never, ever think the band is 'dead.'
Call once in awhile. Unless someone tries, nobody will work anybody!
Keep QSOs ultra-short. Conditions change rapidly on 6m.

Get yourself a Maidenhead grid square map.
You can't play Bingo without a playing card!
All VHF/UHF awards are based on these geographic squares.

Get a copy of Ken Neubeck's book: 'A Guide To The Magic Band'
This is a great book. His callsign is WB2AMU.

Good luck, amigo! Karl Zuk N2KZ dit dit
