 Actually, "Midland"  sold them for years. They have  a pcb designed to fit in the XTR radios (and a few of their other  models). it is called a DVSR pcb (Digital Voice Simplex Repeater") I have one of these that  i removed from a highband  XTR . These were the economical  way of getting around coordinating rptr. pairs when they were at a premium and also kept the cost down by not needing duplexers  because of the freq. pairs needed!
If someone is looking for one to play with,this one is available
I don't have the instllation instructions for it, but  i'm sure that it is out there somewhere!( for Midland only!!! )
