[SixClub] Amplifiers, repeaters, 6-meters, and bounced messages.

Folks, please don't take this as an opportunity to go way off topic.
This isn't really OT as it pertains to bouncing messages on a specific
reflector, the "SixClub".

This is my degreed field so and I do have some answers ...sorta...There
are so many places and words I'd be hard pressed to come up with
specifies, but it's endemic in poorly written and applied software
filters. It's not just word interpretation, but words that are atypical
of the normal conversations on a specific server of group.

I run into it in many places and as I use specific addresses for
reflectors and other correspondences I can pin it down a bit more. One
topic and our own reflectors are guilty of over reacting with poor
filters is finances. Hams are not expected to talk about finances or the
market. Just using that word or referring to that sector may cause
this message to bounce, but in one way or another that's how we get out
stations. The second is the ham community. Why I'm not sure, but
between those two categories I have a false positive rate that varies
between 50 and 75%. To me that is unacceptable, but the argument is
that they set the filters for the average person who is quite happy with
the way they work so for a few they aren't going to change. Now being
hams already sets us apart as different from the rest of the
population. As I am a pilot and also do some investing I find two more
categories that are susceptible and set me still farther apart.

But as to On topic, I recently purchased a good HF amp (it's not here
yet) and had planned on getting one for 6-meters that matched it. IOW
they are identical except for the tank circuit. Every thing else is
exactly the same. I do like QRO and I've assembled nearly every thing
here by hand including towers and antennas. So I figure I'm entitled to
purchase something now and then. OTOH Customs will probably dump it
into a barrel of oil or water (If they can lift it). The last thing I
received direct from china had absolutely no structural integrity left.
It was a ball of bubble wrap held together with tape. Thank goodness for
the foresight of the shipper. The box was long since gone and it was a
pair of high power tetrodes, one of which has a noticeable dent.

Unfortunately I also belong to the unwashed masses called the middle
class that is supposed to be seeing our lot improving according to
recent campaign promises. I converted an IRA (part of my retirement)
into a Roth at the market low (good timing), BUT the whole thing was
taxed and they won't let me average it. This year you get two years to
pay off the tax although you still owe it. Last year...Nada. For what
the government gets I could have had a Kalifornia Kilowatt even if it
wasn't all that big. It looks like I may have to settle for converting
my old Alpha 76 to 6-meters instead of purchasing the one I wanted.

Now I'm not complaining about my status in life, stroke 3 years ago and
all. I can walk, talk, reason, and don't drool in my bib although I did
have to learn how to walk again and I never thought I'd be proud to tie
my own shoes twice in my life.:<-)) Joey, my hat goes off to you as the
only pain I had was after the rehab sessions. I'm far better off than
many who never had a stroke, even when it comes to health, but I do hate
to give a third of my retirement to the government when they've been
promising us middle class folk so much. If I gotta lose it I'd rather
give it to a charity of my choice.

Lordy, I even fly a 50 year old airplane (
http://www.rogerhalstead.com/833R/833r_photos.htm ) Yes that's me with
the shades and headset. (and I do have my medical back) I usually clip
the HT in the window on the starboard side and wear a small headset
under the big ANRs. OTOH I do have to be careful and remember which PTT
switch to push.....The RNAV radio died last winter and the #1 com died
last week end. That still gives me one of each. The attitude indicator
is dying a slow death and the engine is almost ready for a major
overhaul. Oh and the tip tanks (15 gallons each) leak so I don't use
them. Actually the plane is in good shape, it's just getting old and
it's time for some regular maintenance. OTOH that description fits me as
well. I seem to take more maintenance every year. I'd really like to
be 40 again without having to resort to senility to get there.

Now what I'd like to do is install a good all band mobile rig in the
plane like an Icom 7000 or Yaesu 897D although I find the 897D a bit on
the fragile side. I'd bet that from 8,000 to 12000 feet 50, 144, and 440
would work right well although the feds would insist I don't fly IFR
while using it.<:-)) Take some one along to operate, put it on
autopilot and watch for traffic. I gotta admit I've heard many a plane
above 18,000 feet operating VHF and UHF and above 18,000 is class A
airspace which is all IFR.
BTW maritime and aeronautical indicate operation over international
territory, but no one seems to pay attention to that any more.

So, Doc, you pay for the gas and we can do some 6-meter operation with a
really tall 1/4 or 1/2 wave antenna.
Did I mention is burns 14.5 gallons per hour? However at economy cruise
we can stay up there over 7 hours if your bladder can stand it. I'm not
going to do the math of 14.5 GPH by the current cost of av gas in your
area, but it takes a 100 gallons to fill all tanks.
When I was working I not only had more money to fly, I seemed to have
more time to get a lot more things done.

Basically who knows. It might just be about some topic few hams talk
about, or few *normal* people.

As I said in an earlier post...fat fingering "0" and "-"

Or swap in the subject line, looking at [six club] as a
misspelling....but it doesn't get all posts. It however did get my own
post below and put it in the spam filters. It'll be interesting to see
if this long diatribe makes it through.
Sorry about the soapbox, but I sometimes get more than a bit irritated
at the hinderences my hobbies, play, and retirement encounter even
beyond age.<:-))
