Unless you have two receivers, monitoring two frequencies on six is difficult.

If the band is "dead", I don't see any reason NOT to transmit PSK on 125.

If someone replies with PSK, then move off channel. If someone hears  
your PSK and answers in SSB , go ahead and make a ssb contact.

Until the sunspot cycle improves, ANY rf on 125 has a better chance of  
a contact than anywhere else. Worst case is a couple of Grinches might  
be inconvenienced.
