Simple "gain", as we have discussed here previously,
is not the only important variable when assessing an
antenna.

Here are some variables:

1.  Height above grade as it impacts antenna performance.

2.  Polarization of local noise sources.

3.  Purpose of antenna for multi-direction Net use or
	DX or regional communications.

4.  Availability of a rotator.

5.  Desired bandwidth.

6.  Objects in the antenna's field.

7.  Objects on the near-horizon, e.g. mountains, water.

These are often not mutually-compatible variables.
