If you are talking ham equipment I think "old" might be a misnomer. You
only have to go back a couple of years to find a lot of equipment
without seperate tones, nor the choice of using one or the other. It was
all or nothing. You might even find some new equipment still doesn't
have separate tones for transmit and receive.
