[SixClub] SixClub Digest, Vol 61, Issue 9

Hi Larry.

I would take the lack of detection with a grain of salt. We got a virus
at work that ran rampant through numerous Norton protected servers. We
had Norton Enterprise 10, and Symantec Norton 11 (Enterprise Symantec
Endpoint Protection11) that did not catch it. The systems had the latest
definitions. I think the enterprise management server checks for updates
once an hour or so. We sent examples of the infected files to Symantec
(Norton). It still took them two days to get definitions to detect it. I
uploaded the files here http://virusscan.jotti.org. The only ones to
reliable detect the infection was Kaspersky, F-Secure, and one other. I
think it was Sophos. That event has totally turned me against Symantec.
Not to mention what a resource hog it is. This all happened in the last
30 days...

I don't think they even released definitions for ver 10 to detect this
virus. We had to update our entire enterprise to V11. That killed many
of the older machines performance.

You may try getting this CD from Kaspersky and try it out
http://devbuilds.kaspersky-labs.com/devbuilds/RescueDisk/ It is a free
bootable CD image. It has worked well for me. I am not affiliated with
any of these companies other than as a customer.
