Exactly...I have worked some great openings with a NMO150..and also worked
one with a NLA220 mag mount on a metal chair!!!

BUT for best range with no opening, horizontal is the way to go.....less
noise that way too....

 although when the band is open the antenna polarization really doesn't seem
to matter...
