[SixClub] Band monitoring question

Hiya guys, maybe someone can help me out with a question.

As a newly licensed General I've been playing on HF a lot and missing out on 
a lot of band openings.  I'm thinking of putting my trusty RCI 5054 to work 
as a band monitor hooked to a loop antenna.   When 6 opens up I'll tune the 
FT847 over to work 6 meters on the beam... but will just turning off the 
RCI5054 protect it from front end overload (and blowing the radio) or do I 
need to disconnect the loop's coax lead?
