I prefer the paper QSL's myself. Maybe I am a QSL
nut to some. I have hundreds from when I was a SWL way
back in the 70's and 80's before I got my ham license.
It is interesting to look at and show someone a QSL
from East Germany, The Canal Zone, or some other
"country" that no longer exists in the form it once
was. Let's face it"hard" QSL cards can bring back
memories.
I too like the "personalised QSL", with a photo of
the location or the operator or a unique drawing
related to same.
I first QSL'ed enough grids for a VUCC back in
1993. Right now I have 430 + confirmed. Got WAS
conformed in 1999. At present I ahve 78 countries
confirmed. All on 6 meters. I am not telling this to
brag, but to just tell where I am coming from with all
this. You see, like some others, I too worried about
loosing my cards when having them checked and so I
haven't applied for any ARRL awards though I have been
a member of the ARRL since 1984.
I haven't been too active in the last three years,
due to my health problems, but this year has been
different and I'm making many contacts again, only
this time as a mobile.
I am trying to see if I can work 100 grids from
this grid as a mobile. If I am able to do so, I'll use
those QSL's to apply for my first VUCC. I know they
don't give endorsements for such things, but I'll know
how it was earned.
One day when I can find a VUCC checker close
enough for me to drop the cards off and pick them, I
will probably apply for a WAS. Unless I earn enough
QSL's from my mobile activities, hi, hi.
With all that said, I guess I should have better
phrased my orginal question.
Can LOTW be used to earn VUCC? It use to
wasn't, but things change. I am just curious, and
would like to know. Don't know if I'd use ot if it
were, but it would be nice to know if someone relys
upon it for my grid.
