I've been reading the Posts pro & con for LOTW, eQSL, Paper, etc.
with some interest. IMHO they all have their Merits, and aggravations
as well.
I sent for the Key, etc for LOTW nearly a year ago, and still have
not had ANY success being able to use LOTW. I'm sure it is something
I'm not doing right, as so many others around the world seem to do
just fine with it? HMmmmmmmmmmm
I do use & support eQSL, and find it easy to use even though a
majority of those I QSO with do not use it. Before I bought new
Logging Software I did ALL my Logging with eQSL. Even though I use
other Software now, I still QSL some with eQSL! I have personalized
my eQSL with a Photo of our Dirt Late Model "OUTLAW" Race Car as
seems fitting for my Call Sign (W7CAR), or Visa versa? <grin>
I too enjoy going to the Mailbox and find a Card or Letter from
someone I am thankful to have met, even if briefly on the air. I
especially like the Picture Postcards, or Photo QSL's, as gives me
the opportunity to see something near to someone, or of someone I've
enjoyed QSOing with. I've never traveled outside the USA, nor is it
likely I ever will, so photos of People & Things from those in other
Cities/States/Countries as you can imagine are quite precious to me!
Years ago I had a Rubber Stamp made so I could stamp the back of a
Picture Postcard of Snow covered Mt Hood and fill out the QSO info. I
sent all my cards Either Direct, or Direct to the QSL Bureau of
whichever country it needed to go to. Was easy to purchase the
Postcards 1,000 at a time for 5 Cents each. Twas fun to hear the
comments of those who enjoyed seeing something in Oregon, especially
those who've never seen Snow or such high mountains.
To date the only ARRL Award I've sent off for was the WAC Award &
worried about losing those cards till I got them back. I confirmed
256 Countries as a Novice on 10 Meters during Cycle 22, and have
never sent in any of those cards again for Awards other than the WAC.
6 Meters is completely New to me here, and I'm looking forward to
using it more, and building my Station up as necessary to use the
band, and find even more Friends! LoL
BTW I am quite happy to be an ARRL member!
