I am not sure about Georgia but in NH 6 meter fm gets very little use. I
have a yeasu Ft857D that I use for six meter work and at 100 watts can use maybe
8 machines. I had a VX5 (yeasu 6/2/440) and found maybe 2 machines close
enough to my home to get into. When it came time to buy a new HT I purchased the
Kenwood tribander, and found that I get more use of the third (220) band
then I ever did on 6 meter. Unfortunately 6 meter repeaters are not that popular
in New England and it seems when one fails it remains out of service. The
other issue is antenna. The antenna on the Yeasu HT for six is basically a
dummy load and the aftermarket ones are very long and clunky and don't really
seem to work a whole lot better on 6. As much as I enjoy six meter I would have
to recommend the Kenwood with 220 IF there are a lot of 220 repeaters in your
area.
