You betcha! My FT-897D and FT-857D both work fine on 6m, and I'm
thinking about dedicating the FT-857D to use as a 6m beacon here in
the wilds of EM15gf.
My FT-857, which I bought used, does *NOT* like 6m, and goes into a
runaway oscillation at high power when I key up, even with the RF
power output dialed all the way down. I found that out the hard way,
frying a Fluke 1953A counter's input atttenuator trying to count the
output. This runaway oscillation is a known problem with the FT-857
(not FT-857D), and I really need to send the 857 in for repairs and
updates, as the finals now are fried.
Anyone got any suggestions for beacon frequency? I'm thinking that
50.0625, at 10 Watts into a vertical or J-pole, would be good.
