Hmmm...Something is not right here, but I guess that's already assumed.<:-))
I'm assuming that you are running the normal #10 or #8 wire from the battery
to the radio. Of course assumptions are never safe, but if you are running
the normal power cable (I'll have to check, but I think my 897D uses #10)
The amount of current needed to drop the actual voltage at the rig from a
fully charged *large* lead acid batter would fry the insulation off the
cable in seconds.

It may be good equipment, but very time I see the name "Rigrunner" it makes
me think of cheap CB equipment.

I would assume the above is the interface between the battery and the power
supply and you run the rig directly off the batter. I'd not do it any other
way. I trickly charge the battery to keep it topped off, if the output of
the battery goes through any switching there are too many places for RF to
get in.

Nope. Mine in the shop is working better than the Icom 756 Pro tied to a 7L
yagi at 115 feet. Of course the rotator is out so the yagi is stuck to the
NW which really cuts down on my options for directions.

Mine is what ever came in the rig which I purchased new this Spring.
I say this as the 897D is my shop rig and I'm in the house. I have it
*almost* set up to drive a Henry 2K4 with a Hy-Gain Patriot vertical monted
at 32 feet. The system works great on all bands except 20 where it appears
to be a dummy load not only for transmit but receive as well. I think the
antenna problem is a function of being mounted at 32 feet.
My SWAG would be some RF is getting back into the system and the leads to
the battery may be just the right length to prevent the battery as serving
as a very large capacitor which would normally keep RF out of the power
leads.
