And my antenna is *stuck", well actually it's the thrust bearing(s) that are
stuck. I have a lot mounted above the top of the tower. Unfortunately with
all the high winds (and lightning strikes) the top thrust bearing (TB-3) is
pretty much shot. It had worn to the point where the top race was setting on
the mounting bolts and washers for the bearing. This was causing it to bind
to the point where a large rotator could not turn it.
A couple weeks ago I discovered the cause while up the tower. I loosened
the centering bolts to allow the mast to rotate inside the bearings and all
was well until today. Now it's bound up again and a rotator with many
thousands of inch pounds of torque can't move it.
I've you've seen the weather maps EN73 is just a bit east of the center of a
low that seems to be going nowhere and it is *raining* out there with the
tmps just barely into the 50's. So It looks like it may be a while before I
get back up there to fix it.
