I'm not sure what constraints you may be operating under regarding size,
etc. But if you can't afford a tower, you have two fairly decent choices.
One, as Jerry noted, would be a 5 element yagi which will have about a 12
foot boom. A TV rotator will handle that IF you are fairly careful, and
winds in your area aren't regularly very high. And since they don't cost
much, you could use a second rotator for your 2 meter (and perhaps add one
for 432 on that, since they'd both be small).
Now, I have constraints that make even a yagi difficult - so what I use is
two different antennas. One is very directional, roughly in between a 3
element and a 5 element yagi in effectiveness - the PAR SM-50. It's a
stressed Moxon design, and works well with a tv rotor. And it's very small,
which is a concern in a townhouse setting. Very light wind loading.
Located on the same mast, about 12 feet down, is a PAR OA-50, which is the
omni-directional for those times when I need that capability.
Understand, this is a compromise - I'd love a tower with a BIG yagi array,
1500w, etc...but you work with the space and money available.

Hello Listers,
Well after I thought I would no longer need this list
I find myself once again needing it so I am back
again. I just last week bought a used FT-100. This
coming spring I will moving into a house. I still find
myself struggling with one problem. The problem is
with antennas. My orignial thought was to go these
loops from KB6KQ and stack 4 loops on a pole and achor
it to the house. I have no tower and they frankly cost
to much. My other thought I have recieved no comment
on is what about these long wire dipoles that Antenna
Works makes for 6 and 2 meters. I only have a puny tv
rotator.
thanks & 73,
