I believe they were talking about an end feed longwire. If you want a wire antenna you might try a rombic, if done right you can see a 30DB gain. And if you put this in the path of the moon you can work EME but not all the time, just a short window.

To answer your question "as long as they are matched and tuned to six" they will work, but a beam is better
