My info was a bit outdated. The original plan for
efficient use of spectrum called for all channels to
be over 440 MHz, but the new proposal set a region
on the channel 7 to 13 area (174-216 Mhz), and 14 to
51 (470-698 Mhz) for DTV. They also mention that the
VHF low, where our beloved band is located, is too
prone to interference and the UHF has propagation
problems, so a 270 MHz core band is being proposed.
The VHF low channel frequencies will be recovered for
other purposes.
